Slate has put together a contest to find the perfect sports metaphor for the Democratic nomination process. I dare not say “race,” because that is, of course, a sports metaphor itself. It’s a primary election, as you know. But sports metaphors are so common in politics that you can hardly separate them. In fact, they’re neck and neck, toe to toe. Anyways… check it out.

Personally I like the Ali-Frazier boxing match metaphor, because it captures the styles of each of the competitors (Ali as Obama, Frazier as Clinton). It’s also a very American sport. There’s one prominently displayed sports metaphor that has to do with cricket. Eeew. How European.
