The Washington Nationals have a new ballpark and a new season- probably the only two things that Nats ticket holders will have to cheer about for several months. They did cheer for those things, but presumably a good section of the crowd on Opening Day did not feel the need to cheer on President George W. Bush as he got the honor to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Check out the video.

I decided to select this version of the video since it was the most politics-meets-sports of the many out there.

  1. Bush, who used to be an ownership partner of the Texas Rangers, and played some baseball in college at Yale, still has some heat in that arm of his. Check out the chin music. Not bad, W. Would Bill Richardson get the win in an opening day showdown of former college baseball playing governors? Not with what George is throwing (notice– no warmups, except back in the Rose Garden, and he still located better than Randy Johnson).
  2. Keith Olbermann is reporting from MSNBC. He loves baseball, used to be a Sports Center anchor, and hates W. You couldn’t ask for a better set-up. The clip is No. 3 on his countdown. Steeeerike!
  3. Lots of extra junk only a baseball nut and political junkie like Olbermann would get, such as the back story about how the Nationals could not come up with one active player who could catch the opening pitch who was not named in the Mitchell Report- another one of those perfect sports-meets-politics issues.

Amazing day here at Fantivity. We should call this day, April Fantivity’s Day!
